Understanding Chronic Back Pain

According to the American Chiropractic Association, lower back pain affects nearly 31 million Americans—about 2% of the U.S. population. Most cases are related to musculoskeletal conditions caused by mechanical issues.

Chronic back pain is defined as pain that persists for 12 weeks or longer, which may occur continuously or with periods of relief.

What do you think causes your back pain?
To find the right treatment, it’s important to identify the underlying cause.

In our daily routines, we spend long hours sitting—whether at work, during commutes, or even while relaxing at home. However, sitting for extended periods is one of the most common causes of back pain, as it creates an imbalance between muscle stretching and contraction.

Daily activities can also contribute to back pain, such as improper posture when bending over or picking up objects from the floor. This type of lower back pain often develops over time due to a sedentary lifestyle, poor dietary habits, and other factors that add stress to the lower back, which is not designed to handle prolonged strain.

Over time, the body becomes weaker due to wear and tear, leading to overuse injuries, muscle inflammation, pain, and discomfort.
